Better not be greedy, as it is the death before death
A famous saying goes, “We die only once, but die of greed numerous times”.
One of the most pervasive vices of life, Greed affects every one of us. For some it is the greed of money, for others it is the greed of power, and for some others it is the greed of other material things.
We all crave for things in life, but craving for those things which we cannot lay our hands on is greed. Like for example, whenever we meet a high profile person, we are hardly concerned of his knowledge and achievement but are rather concerned about how we can benefit from him or can milk him for our personal gains. This results in us trying to be his favourite by doing everything logical and illogical that he says, and essentially becoming his slave. But when the time comes that he is either intentionally or unintentionally unable to help us, at that time we feel dejected and loose a good connection like him.
Truly, nobody else can benefit oneself than he himself. It is said that nobody can be a good friend that oneself. So to be happy we have to explore the things which make us feel happy and work towards owning them by our own efforts. Like for example, while a Rs. 1000 article can make us happy, in the same way a Rs. 100 article can also make us happy. The difference lies in perception and how far are we willing to go to attain that happiness.
Say for example you wish to enjoy beautiful snow mountains, and wish to go to Switzerland for them. This unrealistic dream is greed. What you can do is to control that urge and rather go to Kashmir to enjoy comparable snow sights, which by being within your pockets will give you the same happiness and satisfaction.
